Islam

AROPL / Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light (Abdullah Hashem Aba Al-Sadiq)

Small Mahdi-claimant Islamic-derived new religious movement founded ~2015 by Egyptian-American Abdullah Hashem Aba Al-Sadiq (b. 1983). Hashem teaches he is the awaited Mahdi (Islamic eschatological end-times figure), Christ returned, and 'Riser of the House of Muhammad'. Distinct from — and rejected by — the mainstream Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Multi-jurisdiction asylum-claim trail (Egypt → Turkey → UK → Switzerland → US Texas) and documented coercive-control patterns including group-marriage rituals, communal child-rearing, surrendered passports, and shunning of departing members.

Islam

Takfir wal-Hijra (Jama'at al-Muslimin)

Takfir wal-Hijra — 'excommunication and exodus', the press name for Shukri Mustafa's Jama'at al-Muslimin (Society of Muslims) — was the most radical of the movements to emerge from Egypt's prison-incubated Islamist ferment of the 1960s–70s. Shukri taught that Egyptian society in its entirety, rulers and ruled alike, had apostatised (takfir), and that true Muslims must withdraw (hijra) into the group's own purified community — desert camps and communal apartments where marriages, labour, and obedience were organised under his absolute authority, and where leaving was apostasy punishable by death in doctrine. In July 1977 the group kidnapped and murdered former religious-endowments minister Sheikh Muhammad al-Dhahabi after the state rejected its ransom demands; the crackdown that followed swept up hundreds, and Shukri and four lieutenants were executed in 1978. The group's doctrinal package — society-wide takfir licensing violence against anyone outside the elect — became a template strand in later jihadism.

Christian

The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria is one of the oldest Christian traditions, with deep liturgical and monastic life and voluntary lay participation. Functions as a minority faith in Muslim-majority Egypt with strong cultural cohesion.
