Disfellowshipping
Jehovah's Witnesses' formal expulsion process. Disfellowshipped persons are shunned by all baptised members including immediate family.
How it looks in practice
A JW member who is disfellowshipped — usually after a Judicial Committee hearing for a doctrinal or behavioural violation — is announced from the platform. From that point, every baptised JW including immediate family is required to refuse contact. Reinstatement requires multiple-month visible repentance and a second Judicial Committee.
BITE-model connection
The paradigm case of high-emotional-control institutional shunning. The Jehovah's Witnesses CLCI score of 30 is substantially driven by the documented effect of disfellowshipping on family relationships.
