Learned helplessness
Martin Seligman's framework (1967 onward) — repeated exposure to uncontrollable aversive stimuli produces a generalised expectation that response is futile. Documented in cult survivors who report ongoing difficulty making independent decisions after exit even when material conditions allow it.
