Seven Angels Ministries (Mancoba Seven Angels Ministries)

Seven Angels Ministries (Mancoba Seven Angels Ministries) was a closed compound congregation at Nyanga village near Ngcobo in South Africa's Eastern Cape, formed in 2015 by the sons of the late Siphiwo Mancoba after breaking from his 1986-founded Angel Ministry. Congregants who had surrendered property and been barred from outside work and education under the group's doctrine were convicted over a 21 February 2018 armed attack that killed five police officers and a soldier; a police raid on the compound two days later killed seven members, including three Mancoba brothers, and removed dozens of women and children from a group the CRL Rights Commission's chairperson, Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva, later told News24 (20 March 2018) had already been flagged in the Commission's October 2017 report to Parliament as a 'ticking time bomb'.

Sub-Saharan African prophetic / apostolic high-control churches (umbrella)

Umbrella entry covering a documented pattern of high-control prophetic and apostolic ministries within Sub-Saharan African Christianity, primarily concentrated in Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Kenya, and documented in the South African CRL Rights Commission 2015–2017 reports on the 'commercialisation of religion and abuse of people's belief systems' alongside sustained African and international press coverage. Several specific named ministries within this pattern are profiled separately in the catalogue. This umbrella covers the pattern at the genre level; it does NOT generalise to the broader diversity of African Christianity.

KwaSizabantu Mission

KwaSizabantu Mission is a large, long-established Evangelical mission station in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, founded in 1970 by Erlo Stegen and sustained today by an extensive commercial and educational footprint (aQuellé bottled water, a supermarket, farms, two schools) that survived a 2020 News24 investigation alleging rape, sexual assault of children, worker exploitation and money laundering. The one official body that examined the allegations in depth, the CRL Rights Commission, confirmed one member's rape conviction and historic corporal punishment and virginity testing in a July 2023 report while declining to call the mission a 'cult' — then jointly withdrew that entire report with the complainant-applicants in December 2025, leaving the wider allegations contested and formally unresolved.

Islam

Shadhili-Darqawi — Murabitun World Movement (Sheikh Abdalqadir as-Sufi / Ian Dallas)

Western convert lineage of the Shadhili-Darqawi Sufi sub-order, organised as the Murabitun World Movement under the late Sheikh Abdalqadir as-Sufi (born Ian Dallas, 1930–2021). Distinctive 'gold dinar' anti-fiat-currency political programme and concentrated property holdings in Granada (Spain), Cape Town and Norwich (UK). Mainstream Darqawi practice is low-moderate; the Murabitun sub-current specifically warrants the +1 modifier.

Islam

Deobandi (high-control sub-currents)

Deobandi Islam, originating from the Darul Uloom Deoband seminary (1866), is a vast Sunni revivalist tradition. Mainstream Deobandi practice is conservative but non-coercive; specific high-control sub-currents (some Pakistani madrasas, certain UK seminaries) earn this rating.
